Interview with Adam Fainman
YES: When did you start your job search – career journey/business/art practice and what were some of your goals when you started?

Adam: I started trying to do music more full-time about 18 months ago, which is when I was introduced to YES to help build connections in the Montreal scene.  My main goal was to see if I can become financially stable through music and art. I wanted to build connections in Montreal and eventually be able to put together a show, release a project, tour it, and continue growing my artistry.

YES: What stage are you at now? What have been your greatest achievements?

Adam: I’m currently in the middle of my tour, having released my latest album Been A Long Time.  Some notable achievements have been:

  • Getting placed in some of the top Spotify editorial playlists including Northern Bars and Fresh Finds Canada
  • Having my music spun on CBC, Virgin Radio, and Energy 106.
  • Putting on a successful release show in Montreal at L’Escogriffe was really special and helped me overcome a mental barrier about putting on a show in a new city.
  • On the Moonlite Media side, receiving funding from the federal government was truly special and has helped me develop a great business mentality for Moonlite and for my artistry.
YES: What were/are your biggest struggles?

Adam: My biggest struggles at first were getting clients, getting traction on social media, securing playlists, and generally getting my music out to people.  I think my vision wasn’t clear and my energetics weren’t aligned properly.  I still struggle a bit with anxiety but I have the proper tools to help with that like breathwork, beatboxing, and exercise to help me stay aligned and grounded.

YES: What was the problem you were experiencing before you came into YES?

Adam: I was stuck in my career and didn’t know how to grow beyond the self-imposed ceiling.

YES: What did you find as a result of using our services?  What was/is the best thing about it?

Adam: I found the one on one coaching to be tremendously helpful.  Not only did I learn a lot from my coaches Stacey and Farshad, but I also think it was extremely beneficial for me to allocate time in my life to focus on these parts of my career.  The meetings help keep me accountable, and create a safe space to work on my shortcomings.  It’s hard to say one best thing. Overall I found the meetings to help me with a sense of clarity.  Stacey really creates a safe space to allow me to be kinder to myself, and acknowledge the successes, and hardships, along the way.   Farshad is immensely knowledgeable in all things tech-startup, so he has been instrumental in helping me understand how to be a strong CEO in the tech space.

Whether you’re an artist or a CEO, I think the one thing no one talks about is how lonely it can be being an entrepreneur. I’m incredibly grateful for YES providing coaches to help us feel less alone and help guide us along this journey.

YES: How do you feel about the service you have received from YES?

Adam: It’s been wonderful; life-changing.  I couldn’t recommend it more to any entrepreneur no matter what stage they’re at in their career.  YES does an outstanding job getting to know each client and matching them with the right coaches, workshops, and industry-people to help elevate you.

YES: Do you have any other thoughts you would like to share?

Adam: I just wish more people knew about YES and I’m forever grateful for this resource.  If you ever have questions about the music or tech space, I’m always happy to share about my experiences.   If you’re interested in groovy music, you may enjoy listening to my music or coming to a live show some time.
