NEW! Level up your Artist Bio, Statement, & CV

September 23 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm EDT

How to Write an Artist Bio, Statement & CV That Gets Noticed

Not sure how to describe your artistic practice? Level Up Your Artist Bio, Statement & CV is a practical workshop designed to help artists communicate their work with greater clarity, confidence, and purpose.

Writing about your own work isn’t always straightforward. Many artists struggle to know where to begin, what to include, or how to describe their practice without relying on vague or generic language. Whether you’re applying for grants, exhibitions, residencies, festivals, or other professional opportunities, having strong written materials can help your application stand out and accurately reflect your work.

Level Up Your Artist Bio, Statement & CV

This workshop offers a framework for approaching the artist bio, statement, and CV as tools for understanding and communicating your practice. Through examples, practical exercises, and guided feedback, we’ll look at the different roles each document plays and how they can work together to present a clear picture of your work.

We’ll spend time identifying the ideas, questions, and experiences that shape your practice. The goal is to develop materials that are specific, coherent, and useful across a range of professional contexts.

What You’ll Learn

  • Clarify the ideas and themes that run through your practice.
  • Understand the distinct purpose of an artist bio, statement, and CV.
  • Develop strategies for writing with greater clarity and specificity.
  • Recognize and move beyond common generic or overused formulations.
  • Leave with practical tools you can continue to apply when revising these documents.

Why This Matters

Your bio, statement, and CV are often requested for grants, exhibitions, residencies, festivals, and other opportunities. They are frequently the first introduction decision-makers have to your work and can play an important role in shaping how your practice is understood.

These documents also provide an opportunity to reflect on your artistic journey and communicate your ideas in a way that is accessible to others. A strong understanding of these materials can make the application process feel more manageable and less like starting from scratch each time.

By participating in this workshop, you’ll gain practical strategies that can help you create stronger professional materials and feel more confident presenting your work.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is intended for emerging artists from all disciplines who are developing or revising their professional materials. It is suitable both for artists writing these documents for the first time and for those returning to materials that no longer reflect their current practice.

No prior experience is required.

About the Speaker:

Caroline Gauthier first began her training as an opera singer. She earned her music degree at Université de Montréal, then transitioned into theatre and film. Being of an entrepreneurial spirit, she soon began producing stage shows and short films and co-founding a film collective. There, she saw her films selected for festivals in Canada, Europe, and the United States. After a 12-year career in the arts and media sector, Caroline recognized that management and coordination were among her greatest strengths. This realization led her to pursue her passion for business by completing an MBA at HEC Montréal.

Known for her practicality, empathy, and rigor, Caroline is equally recognized for her strong analytical and strategic thinking skills. Throughout her career, she has combined her creative sensibilities with a highly rational mindset to successfully advance projects in both the arts and nonprofit sectors.

As an artist business coach, she brings to the table her knack for structure, forging a vision and seeing things through.

She is thrilled to use her business and creative skills to put them at the service of artist-entrepreneurs and help them with their projects, from ideation to fruition.
