Starting the Journey
When did you start your employment journey, and what were some of your goals when you started?
My employment journey began last year when I started searching for full-time work. As a pianist, my initial goal was to find stable employment that would help me support myself while continuing to nurture my passion for music.
One of my main goals was to create a strong CV that would help me stand out to employers and lead to interview opportunities. I wanted to find meaningful work that would provide stability, allow me to grow professionally, and help me build a brighter future.
Growing Through the Process
What stage are you at now? What have been your greatest achievements?
I recently secured a full-time position and am excited to begin this new chapter in my career. My greatest achievement was not only finding a job, but also the personal growth that happened throughout the process.
I learned how to tailor my CV to specific opportunities, improved my interview skills, and became much more confident in presenting myself to employers. Over time, I noticed that I sounded more confident, felt more confident, and was better able to showcase my strengths. Securing a position with one of Canada’s leading employers was a proud moment and a reminder that persistence truly pays off.
What were/are your biggest struggles?
My biggest struggle was discouragement. Being without a job and without a steady income was incredibly challenging and often created uncertainty about the future.
There were times when opportunities did not work out as I had hoped, and it was difficult to stay positive. However, those challenges taught me resilience and helped me develop the determination to keep moving forward, even when the process felt overwhelming.
Overcoming Job Search Challenges
Like many job seekers, Isabelle knew she had valuable skills and experience but found it difficult to stand out in a competitive job market. Despite submitting applications, attracting the attention of employers and securing interview opportunities proved challenging.
What was the problem you were experiencing before you came into YES?
The biggest challenge I faced was getting employers to notice my applications and invite me for interviews. I knew I had valuable skills and experience, but I was struggling to present them effectively and stand out in a competitive job market.
What did you find as a result of using our services? What was the best thing about it?
The support I received helped me strengthen my job search strategy, improve my interview skills, and build my confidence. Through practice and consistent feedback, I learned how to communicate my strengths more effectively and present myself professionally.
The best part was seeing my growth over time. Even when an interview did not lead to a job offer, I continued applying what I had learned and became more resilient with each experience. I learned to keep moving forward, stay positive, and trust the process.
The Impact of YES’ Support
How do you feel about the service you have received from YES?
I am extremely grateful for the support I received from YES throughout my employment journey. Christiane was always encouraging, approachable, and available whenever I had questions or needed guidance.
Having ongoing support made a significant difference during a challenging period in my life. I always felt encouraged to keep going and continue believing in myself and my goals.
The Importance of Resilience and Self-Care
Do you have any other thoughts you would like to share?
One of the most valuable lessons I learned during this journey was the importance of taking care of yourself, even during difficult times. While searching for work, I started paying more attention to my well-being and finding small things that brought me happiness.
I was able to buy myself a keyboard and reconnect with my love of music as a hobby. Focusing on things that brought me joy helped me maintain a positive outlook and build confidence during my job search. As I became happier and more confident, I noticed that change reflected in my interviews and interactions with employers.
When I received my job offer, I felt shocked, relieved, and incredibly happy. It was a moment that reminded me that persistence matters and that opportunities can come when you least expect them.
This experience taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of believing in yourself, even when progress feels slow. My advice to anyone still searching for work is to be patient, keep learning, and keep moving forward. Your opportunity will come.
