Next Up in Our 30 Faces of YES: Margaret Fraser & Stephanie Watt
Stephanie and Margaret first came to YES as they prepared to launch their non‑profit organization, Metalude. With big ideas, complementary backgrounds, and a shared mission, they needed guidance to clarify and strengthen their organization’s identity, understand their contribution to the ecosystem, and get the word out about their work.
With the support of their YES business coach Farshad, they learned to focus their direction, align their many interests, and validate their ideas through hands‑on, real‑world testing. Their coach pushed them to ask hard questions, articulate their vision, and gather proof that their services delivered real value and impact to the community.
Today, Stephanie and Margaret lead an established non‑profit with a strong niche, a values‑driven work culture, and clients who trust their creativity wholeheartedly. Their journey shows how the right support can transform a bold idea into a thriving organization rooted in clarity, purpose, and community impact.
Interview with Margaret Fraser & Stephanie Watt
What brought you to YES, and what were you hoping to achieve at that time?
We had just decided to create something bigger than us – a non-profit organization – and we wanted a coach to help us understand our place in the ecosystem and to help us get the word out that we existed!
Can you tell me about some of the challenges or goals you faced when you first connected with YES? Was there a particular moment or obstacle that felt especially significant?
We had big dreams and ambitions, loads of interests and complementary backgrounds, and we needed to make all of that coherent. We need to create a new identity from our many parts, and then we needed to dovetail with clients’ needs and preferences and what they were willing to pay for. It felt like we could go in a million directions, and our coach helped us see that that wasn’t true at all!
How did YES support you in overcoming those challenges or moving forward in your career, business, or artistic journey?
Our coach Farshad always gave us really good homework – the kind of process work that would get us asking the hard questions, putting on paper our answers and most importantly going out there and testing all of this! He always wanted us to show proof!
Where are you now in your journey, and what achievements or milestones are you most proud of?
We’re established! Our greatest achievements are having demonstrated proof of value for our clients in a niche market and having created a work culture that aligns with our values. Almost three years in, we have found incredible clients who support our creativity and who take risks with us (leading to some incredible results). Today, as employees of our non-profit organization, we are able to take time off to spend with our families, no questions asked. We love this!
Looking back, is there a particular moment or success that stands out as a turning point?
Our first municipal contract in 2023! That was a big goal, to work directly with a municipality, not as a subcontractor, but as the main supplier. We partnered with different people to make this project amazing, and we simply adored the process and the findings.
