Find Your Dream Job with YES — that’s what Anna Antonova achieved with support from YES Employment + Entrepreneurship. After facing career setbacks, Anna turned to YES for guidance, ultimately landing her dream role in the nonprofit sector.
When did you start your employment journey, and what were some of your goals when you started?
Anna: I was on maternity leave for 18 months, and when it was time to return to work, my position had been eliminated due to budget cuts. At first, I felt discouraged, but I realized it was a chance to grow professionally and explore new opportunities. I wanted to continue building my career in marketing, ideally in the nonprofit sector. I also took courses in nonprofit marketing and video production to strengthen my skills. However, with a big gap on my résumé, the job search wasn’t easy — that’s when I reached out to YES.
What stage are you at now? What have been your greatest achievements?
Anna: I’ve just started a new job as a Communications Coordinator in a nonprofit organization. My biggest achievement is overcoming all the challenges along the way and landing what feels like my dream job.
What were/are your biggest struggles before YES?
Anna: I’m not fully bilingual in French, so I was limited in the positions I could apply for. I also suspected my résumé was the problem, since I rarely heard back despite applying to many jobs. I needed to adjust my approach.
What did you find as a result of using our services?
Anna: Ellen, my employment counsellor, spotted issues with my résumé — it wasn’t ATS-compatible, so my applications weren’t reaching employers. She introduced me to new job search strategies and tools. With her résumé, cover letter, and LinkedIn guidance, I began receiving responses almost immediately. Attending YES workshops like the LinkedIn session provided practical tips to maximize my job search effectiveness.
