NATURE AND SCOPE
Under the responsibility of the Associate Dean, Student Success, the AccessAbility Technician supports and participates actively in the development, implementation and coordination of support measures and services for students requiring special support and accommodations. The incumbent participates in the elaboration of individualized intervention plans for students and provides training and support.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists the Adapted Services Counsellor in developing, implementing, and coordinating support measures for students requiring support and accommodations
- Assists the development and improvement of processes that support effective service delivery
- Ensures the scheduling and work organization for invigilation services, note-taking services, and related
- Ensures the training and proper knowledge transfer as needed for the staff and the service providers assigned to the Center
- Maintains accurate records and prepares reports as required
- Assists in the communication with students and families regarding accommodations
- Reviews documentation submitted by students regarding functional, learning or other disabilities which may warrant accommodations, and participates in the preparation of individualized intervention plans (IIP)
- Supports faculty members with the application of appropriate accommodations and support measures
- Meets with students to discuss their individualized plans, adjusts accommodations, if needed, and updates supports measures and goals, whenever necessary
- Provides students with assistance related to disclosure strategies, self-advocacy, and communication skills
- Identifies and supports implementation of software and tools to support student learning (i.e., assistive technology, alternate formats, etc.) and ensures the necessary training for students
- Researches and obtains class material for students with particular needs (i.e., electronic textbooks from publishers, braille translation requests, etc.)
- Ensures the organization and operational flow of exam accommodations, including the scheduling of students and any other related services
- Fulfills other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma of College Studies (DCS) in Special Care Counselling or equivalent
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and French (testing may be required)
- Relevant work experience working with students requiring support and accommodations in a higher education environment
- Experience with adaptive technology
- Computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Office software (testing may be required)
- Knowledge of Clara and Omnivox is an asset
