Location: MWS Camps Montreal, McGill University
Start date: June 19 - August 6, Training days June 19 - 24. This is a residential position.
Compensation: $7500 for dates noted above. Contract terms include all meals, single room accommodation, and entrance to all excursions and activities. Directors will have 1 day off per week.
Established in 1983, MWS Student Camps has welcomed thousands of young people from more than 50 nations to our camps. From the beginning, we have strived to offer and operate innovative, vibrant, and exciting programmes. Our MWS Montreal Camp is centrally located at McGill University allowing us access to so much the city has to offer and immerse our students with Canadian culture.
Our English Language Camp Director is responsible for overseeing and supporting the English Language Camp Leaders in their roles. The director will be responsible for overseeing the English Camp operations, creating camper groups, programming camp activities, and other organizational aspects of the camp. This position will be a point person who speaks with families at drop off and pick ups. They will run meetings with their staff and provide feedback/evaluations of their work. This role will report to the Camp Coordinator.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Organize and supervise the English camp during activities, excursions,
- Responsible for the English Language Camp Staff and evaluations
- Work with MWS staff to create an inclusive camp community
- Support Camp Coordinator with training activities and workshops
- Work cooperatively with MWS leaders and staff to ensure campers are safe, healthy, and happy
- Promote and display MWS values
- Communicate with camper families
- Maintain camper and staff confidentiality at all times
Qualifications & Experience:
- Post-Secondary student or higher
- Fluent in English with working knowledge of French
- Experience in a director and/or program role is an asset
- Volunteer and/or work experience with youth in a camp setting and/or educational environment
- Fluency in other languages is an asset but not required
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and appreciated of diversity and social inclusivity
- Able to work collaboratively with directors and leaders
- Strong conflict resolution skills
