IT'S A WRAP FOR THE 2017 BUSINESS SKILLS FOR CREATIVE SOULS ARTIST CONFERENCE

Over 150 artists from all over Quebec gathered at Société des arts technologiques [SAT] on Monday March 27th for our 2017 Business Skills for Creative Souls Artists' Conference. Attendees got to walk away with insights and information on how to market, finance and manage all aspects of their artistic endeavours.
Inspiration also came from a motivatonal keynote address from Justin West (Secret City Records).

The full-day event was hosted by CBC Montreal's Sonali Karnick and also highlighted 20 youth
from our newly launched Business Skills for Creative Youth Program in an art exhibit that featured paintings, illustrations and more. David Birnbaum, (MNA for D'Arcy McGee, Quebec Liberal Party) was also on hand to provide words of welcome.Thank you to all the attendees, speakers, our funders, exhibitors, community partners
and staff for making this event a great one!

LEARN HOW MELISSA TOMECZ FOUND HER DREAM JOB WITH THE HELP OF YES

Originally from Montreal, Melissa Tomecz worked as a librarian for ten years at the Côte Saint-Luc Library and a  little over a year ago, she was let go of her position due to budget cuts in her department. Melissa realized that the job market had drastically changed over the last decade, so she decided to contact YES in the hopes that she would learn helpful tips on how to make her CV shine and to better prepare her for the tough interviews that lay ahead.

“It was very strange for me to start over from scratch. I had a career and was working, then I was back to square one!” Melissa says.  “The sessions, workshops and practice clinics I attended at YES really helped me to think critically and update my résumé to reflect what employers are looking for in today’s market.”

If there was one thing she could take away from the YES sessions, it was how to find a way to express how she can stand out from other job applicants who were applying for the same positions. Now that she is currently working as a Reference Librarian at John Abbott College, Melissa looks back on that intense month as something that improved her overall.

“I loved how I met people from all walks of life, who were in a similar situation as me,” Melissa says.  “I made some friends and will forever be indebted to this great organization.  The staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome and give you the tools you need to get back on your feet.  It was a very positive experience.”
