ARE YOU IN NEED OF FINANCING FOR YOUR TECH START-UP?

TUNE IN TO YES8: THANK YOU!

We kicked off our annual fundraising efforts at the Olympia Theatre on October 30th with 350 of our valued donors, volunteers and friends.

The event featured food from a dozen local restaurants, complimentary wine and beer, our ever-popular silent auction, raffle and door prizes and exciting live performances by Soul Stream and The Hellbound Hepcats

This year, Ford Canada donated 18 Fiesta-inspired art pieces to YES for our silent auction. These unique pieces of art were originally created for the 9 Artists/24 Hours with the Fiesta campaign, and were displayed in several Montreal subway stations to support the launch of the all-new Ford Fiesta. Of those nine artists, four received support from YES: Norma Andreu/Cara CarminaTyson BodnarchukJesse Collette and Damian Siqueiros.

As a registered charity, we rely on the generosity of our supporters to enable us to provide unique programs and services to the 4,700 individuals who walk through our doors each year. Many thanks to all who participated and donated.

You can re-live the evening’s excitement, by checking out the photos or - if you couldn’t make it - live vicariously through this video produced by Siam Obregón that captured all the fun!

WE'RE LAUNCHING OUR 2014 DIRECT MAIL CAMPAIGN!

With today’s economic climate, we all know that finding both secure and fulfilling work is a challenge. Gone are the days where you could secure a job from a local classified ad, work your way up from the mailroom to become president until finally retiring on a full pension. Gone are the days when earning a bachelors degree, or even a masters would mean you could rely on finding a well paid position in your field.

For some of you, this employment search narrative may not have been the case and for others, a memory of the not-so-distant past. For some still, this is the reality of your everyday struggle.

At YES, we’ve had the pleasure of helping so many of you overcome these tough times, helping you to forge your career path, to finally launch that business idea of yours or to earn a living from your artistic passion. Although it’s with great satisfaction that we are able to help so many, it’s with equal sadness that we are unable to serve everyone that walks through our doors.

We do not want to turn people away and that is why we need your help.

If you are in a position to join us in our efforts, a donation of any amount helps and we would greatly appreciate your support.

Our campaign goal is to reach $35,000 by March 31st. We are asking you to join us in this effort by making a gift to help at least one young person succeed. Again, any amount will help.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. PLEASE GIVE TODAY.

* Tax receipts will be issued for gifts of $10 or more.

ARE YOU READY FOR YOUR JOB SEARCH?

CLIENT OF THE MONTH:DEMETRI MARINAKOS

Demetri Marinakos is a professional photographer and has been a client of YES since early 2014. From a very young age, Demetri has always had a creative and curious mind. Born and raised in Montreal, Demetri spent two years learning the art of photography in Vancouver and soon found his photos gracing local newspapers to excellent reviews. With 15 years of photography experience to his name, Demetri recently launched his new company, eyeguess.com, which specializes in Tech Photography.

“Tech Photography is a specialization of photography that focuses on high resolution digital images of products that are mainly intended for web application,” Demetri explains. “Images are done in a state-of-the-art photo studio and edited to remove any background, making them transparent.”

“YES has helped me tremendously in building eyeguess,” Demetri says. “The guidance and coaching has been invaluable and I would like to acknowledge the significant support that YES has had on my venture.”

As a token of his appreciation, Demetri is currently offering other YES clients that are starting their business, a special offer of 5 pictures for free and 50% off any subsequent pictures.

Currently, Demetri also teaches photography and volunteers in a series of non-profit organizations.
