ANNUAL FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN

In order to successfully fulfill our mission, we count on the generosity of the community to contribute to our annual fundraising campaign. Our goal is to raise $30,000 by March 31, 2013 and you can help.

Has YES made a difference in your life?  Perhaps you have attended some of our helpful and informative workshops, or received advice from our job search team or business and artists' coaches? If you can answer YES to any of these questions, we hope that you will consider a gift to YES. Any amount helps!

With your support, we can continue to help you, your family, friends, neighbours or those most in need to find jobs, start businesses, and start giving back to the Montreal community.

Tax receipts will be issued for gifts of $10 or more.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
PLEASE GIVE TODAY.

CLIENT OF THE MONTH: MARTIN HESLOP & COLIN POWER - CAFÉ RÉSONANCE
Café Résonance
5175A Avenue Du Parc
Montréal
, QC H2V 4G4
(514) 894-7543

Café Résonance
co-owners Martin Heslop and Colin Power met while studying jazz performance at McGill University and found themselves performing together in many different settings. After finishing their respective degrees, both began second degrees; Martin in Physics back at McGill and Colin a Masters in Jazz Performance at the Univeristy of Toronto. It was during this period that both independently became interested in opening a café; Martin through finding a lack of condusive spaces to study and Colin through a keen interest in coffee. Returning to Montreal two years later, Colin and Martin ran into each other at a local jam session and discovered their mutual interest.

With neither of them having a large surplus of cash nor bringing in a significant income, they set out to discover grant and loan possibilities in order to achieve their goal. As part of this search, Martin and Colin found YES and set up a meeting with YES Business Coach Douglas Leahey to discuss their options. Douglas recommended a loan through a partnership between the CYBF and BDC and helped with every step of the application process, including business plan advice, right up to a successful presentation before the YES Loan Review Committee.

Open as of October 2, 2012, Café Résonance is already a success, having just held a busy and well-received grand opening weekend. Featuring a nightly, creative music concert series, Café Résonance has already presented over 50 concerts. In addition to the attraction that live music has brought, preparing some of the city's best coffee and an interesting and affordable vegan menu have made Café Résonance's popularity soar. They said, "We are extremely grateful for the help and guidance we found through YES, in the absence of which, Café Résonance would not have been realized."

BUSINESS BUILDING BLOCKS - FREE BUSINESS PLANS FOR ENTREPRENEURS

Business Building Blocks (B3) is a business plan writing program where a YES entrepreneur is matched with a student group from the John Molson School of Business (Concordia University) over a semester. The undergraduate core Entrepreneurship course at John Molson School of Business (JMSB) produces roughly 100 business plans during each semester (Fall and Winter). This class project has evolved to now focus on working with real entrepreneurs who are about to start a business or are already operating businesses in the Montreal region.

Here's how you can submit your idea for a chance to get a free business plan written for you:
• Write a one page summary as follows: one paragraph describing the idea (product, service, and customers), one paragraph about yourself as an entrepreneur, one paragraph outlining where you are at in terms of development (Is it just an idea or have you done some development on it?)
• Clearly identify your name and contact information (phone and email).
• Email this information to Leann Brown, Project Coordinator: lbrown@yesmontreal.ca.
• Submissions need to be received by
Wednesday December 19th 2012 at 5.00PM
