ENGLISH SPEAKING IMMIGRANT ENTREPRENEURS NEED MORE SUPPORT: YES STUDY

YES, in partnership with the Association of Canadian Studies recently released the report, Opportunities & Obstacles Facing English-Speaking Newcomers Launching Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Quebec.  Findings concluded that about 40 percent of recent English-speaking immigrants who own a business or plan to launch one would not recommend it to others.
“English-speaking immigrants to Quebec who are interested in starting a business need more support and guidance,” said Iris Unger, Executive Director of YES. “The goal of our research was to better understand why so many potential entrepreneurs give up and what challenges existing business owners have. Much more can be done to support business owners and entrepreneurs.”

LEARN ABOUT YES ARTIST CLIENT EMMANUEL LAFLAMME AND HIS NEW CREATIVE VENTURE

Emmanuel Laflamme is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist with a background in cartoon animation and graphic design. A few years ago, he began sharing his digital creations online which then led him to take part in various local and international art shows such as C2-MTL and Just For Laughs in Montreal, as well as in the rest of Canada, United States and France. His work is now part of several private and corporate collections and can be seen in music videos and on beer labels distributed throughout North America.
Emmanuel has been using our artist coaching services since 2012. "I talk about YES to almost everyone within earshot because they helped me so much to grow as an artist,” Emmanuel says.
“The coaching is a very useful and flexible resource that helps me to setup and structure my goals along the way. I have also attended several of their artist and entrepreneur workshops and conferences, and every year I am impressed by the quality of speakers they present.”

He is currently writing his first grant for Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and recently got a grant to develop a new business project. “After being bathed in the creative and entrepreneurial environment I found at YES, I have decided to start working on a new project; a company that specializes in the creation of custom murals for indoor businesses," Emmanuel says. "As a matter of fact, I was commissioned to paint five murals at ROOT Data Center last year. This experience made me realize thatI was capable of undertaking similar and even bigger contracts."
“Thank you Marie-Michèle, Monika and the entire YES team for your hard work and support!"
